People who are blind have been impacted in different ways by Covid-19. It is challenging to follow social distancing without sight, and this is made even harder when we have to avoid physical contact. In this video, you can take a walk with my assistant and me as we explore a park that is new to us — we will show you how to provide guidance for a person who is blind without touching them. You can follow these tips during Covid-19, if cultural restrictions prevent touching, or any other time based on comfort (consent for touch is always important). It is not difficult — you can do it!
Quick tips:
1) Never touch the person without their consent
2) Describe surroundings while walking
3) Give precise directions
If you have any additional tips, please share them in the comments below!
